These aren't my characters, of course.

Aragorn loved her so easily. It was hardly fair that love settled so gently into that heart when his was broken and battered and ached at the mere sight of them.

His eyes, his words, everything about Aragorn sang love. It suited him, made him more beautiful. She made him more beautiful.

But he loved the Lady as well, with darkened eyes. Love hadn't settled in his heart but fought it's way there, bruising on the way down and even when he kissed her the sharp edges rubbed raw the inside of his chest.

And Aragorn's looks did nothing to soothe the rawness inside of him but instead pushed him farther and made him question his mind as well as his heart. It's one thing to love another man's lady, to woo another man's lady. But to love the lady's man?

His heart hurt.

And yet.

Time went on. Minutes and hours and days and soon he kissed them both and knew them each by their scent. And eventually there came a day when he awoke before they, but lay still in the bed between them. The day was still and the light was dim, but he could see the shape of each of their faces and felt warm, circled by them.

Laying silently between them, his heart--still bruised from the fall but raw and angry no more-- his heart began to sing a prayer to gods he no longer believed in.

Thank you, it sang in beats and murmurs. For them.
