The cut was shallow, a warning. The blade had spoken, reminding Boromir of his place among his ancestors. He turned quickly, not wanting the man who watched him to see his face flush. He left the room with his head down, walking until a flash of color caught his eye and he stopped abruptly, just before running into the elf-woman before him. She waved away his apologies without speaking. The look in her eyes, a mix of curiosity and pity and wisdom, made him feel so very young. She took his injured hand in hers before he could be surprised, let alone protest her actions. Bringing the hand to her mouth, she pressed her lips to the cut on his finger and smiled. It must have been imagination that made the stinging of the cut disappear. Yet something in her smile seemed to speak to him of healing, as though she knew his secrets and held the key to ending the trouble in his world and mind. A small nod and she left, moving unobtrusively to the next room and to the man in the shadows. And his heart told him he was no longer alone in this foreign world. |
