He gripped Sting with a white-knuckled grasp. The sword felt unfamiliar in his hands. He wasn't surprised by this. His hands were not made to wield a sword. No time to be scared, don't be scared, don't be scared. He chanted inside his head. He took one step forward, then another, repeating his mantra the whole time. And the farther he went, the less scared he felt. He gritted his teeth now, with each step. He wouldn't let this happen, not to Frodo. Sam reached the foot of the stairs. Staring up them, his anger erupted in a fierce growl. |
