She clasps and unclasps her hands, nervous. Ahead of her is Legolas, holding the banner she soon would carry and behind her is her father, and the past. And beyond the banner: Aragorn, the future. For a moment, she doubts. The fear snakes inside her, leaving cold trails behind. The what-ifs whisper in her mind and in her heart. Then her father is there, pressing a kiss to the top of her head. "Fear not, daughter," he murmurs. "There is hope for you. You are well loved." His voice is unsteady with emotion, a singular event. And suddenly, she believes. |
